Rebuilding of a 1979 Mustang:
Last revised: 2007-07/22.
I bought the car from a friend i my familly, who had used any opportunity to try to sell it
to me. Finally, when the price had gone down below 400 €, in June 2001, i agreed to
take a look at it. And the car did actually not look that bad. And it did drive, with
everything in working order.
The picture below is how the finnished restoration ended up:
This is how the car looked when I bought it. It was badly in need for a carwash.
2001-07/09
And this is after a manual wash down and a automaticly car wash.
And the whole process repeated twice.
So I began with the big job of putting new metal in places where the rust had
removed it.
2001-08/02
Long break for some reason, I dont remember why.
2002-03/11
Big problem with rust above the instrumental panel.
My wife took the pictures so I could be in the picture too.

My fellow club members was at the yearly garage tour, where we take a look at
many of our members garages and projects.
Nice reason to clean up the workshop.
2002-04/15
Also major problems with rust in the sun roof and roof skin overall.
2002-04/24
Meanwhile, when I was working with the rust problems, I shipped the rims to a blasting
company and got them fixed nicely.
The reenforcement in the plastic bumber was nearly completly gone. And because of
our traffic laws, I was forced to mount yellow flashlights anyway, so I made a new
reenforcement out of a front bumber from a Toyota Camry.

Another break around Chrstmas and New Year, I think.
2003-01/11
This time I took a break a whole year, because my wife and I had build a new garage
to our home. When the Mustang is repainted, it will be brought there and the
reassembly will be done at home.
2004-03/01
For some reason the right side of the car is more rusty then the left side.
I have read somewhere that this has to do with the car was a city driver. The opposit
should aply to a countryside driver ?

2004-03/08
Not a lot of work done during the summer.
Now it's wintertime again and I am continue the project.
2004-06/20
Now the engine has to go out, because of rust in the front frame and rusted thru
freeze plugs.
2004-10/02
I'm using a donor car from Germany and cutting the frame parts from it.
2004-11/26
Single exhaust causes rust above it.
2005-01/24
I decided to change the floor panel completely.
2005-02/07
Right door frame rotten, too.
2005-02/24
Allmost finnished, removing antirust by hand and then away to sand blasting.
2005-06/21
Yes!! Outside the shop for the first time in four years!! Waiting for sand blasting.
2005-07/08
And suddenly!!ll One week later.  Finnished!!!   Nice finnish, with black epoxy paint.
Next will be a fresh yellow paint job.
2005-07/14
The paint job was finnish in a week.
2005-08/07
The rusted thru sunroof ended up being okay.
Lots of antirust must be applied in this corner of the world.
The windows are back in.
And all the wires too.
The fuel tank and rear axel is going to be blasted and painted.
Lamps are comming alive again.
Next step is the engine. This is a big task as the result of many years of mistreatment
The only thing to do is to rebuild the engine completly.
Rebuilding of the cylinderheads.
The engine is complete, painted oval blue and reinstalled in the car.
You can hear the engine starts for the first time here. (May require QuickTime)
The restoration of the car is now completed, only different wheels and tires is missing.
2006-02/19
This is my solution to the problem with the danish, yellow sideblinkers:
Yellow diodes drilled into the mirror housing. Also a picture of the engine compartment
